Google Meet is one of the popular video conferencing platforms right now. Made by Google, the platform has greatly improved, with a slew of new features added now and then. One of the key features of Google Meet is polls. Polls are a handy way to breathe life into your online meetings, which can often feel one-sided.

Google Meet Polls Availability

Google Meet is a free platform, but some features are only available to paid subscribers. Google Meet's poll feature is one of the premium features, available only for a fee. Currently, it is available only in select Google Workspace editions.

Google Workspace editions with available polls include Essentials, Business Plus, Business Standard, Enterprise Standard, Enterprise Plus, Enterprise Essentials, Teaching, Learning Upgrade, and G Suite Business. Education Plus, Nonprofits, and Workspace Individual Subscribers can also access the feature. If you're not a member of these, you can't access the feature.

How to Create a Poll in Google Meet

To create a poll, you need to be a moderator in a session. By default, Google Meet grants anyone who creates a meeting with moderator privileges. In other words, if you create the meeting, no need to worry because you will have moderator privileges by default.

Here's how to create a poll in Google Meet:

Once you're in a meeting, select Activities at the bottom right.
Click Polls and select Start a poll on the next page.
Next, enter your question and then your answers. Tap Add an option if you wish to include more than two answers. Remember, Google Meet doesn't support duplicate options as of this writing.
To post your poll, tap Launch.
Click Save if you plan to launch your poll later in the session.
Once done, you can tap the Activities button at the bottom right to exit. And when you're ready to make the poll live, just go to Activities > Polls and click Launch.

That's how you create a poll in Google Meet. Remember, once you hit Launch, Google Meet will instantly notify all meeting participants that a poll is live.

Additionally, the platform will also provide them with an option to Open the poll and give their feedback. In Google Meet, polls are only accessible during the meeting. Once the meeting is over, Google Meet permanently deletes all polls.

How to Moderate a Poll in Google Meet

Google Meet poll's feature has several controls that give you as a moderator power over everyone else. For instance, only you can create and moderate polls. Talking of moderation, you can moderate a poll in several ways.

One, by dictating whether meeting participants should see the final results of the poll. Secondly, by choosing to end a poll. Finally, you can delete a poll permanently. Let's dive into each moderation feature further.

1. Allow Meeting Participants to See Poll Results in Google Meet

By default, poll results are only visible to you as a moderator. But you can also grant this privilege to everyone. Here's how: Once you create a poll, toggle on Show everyone the results. You can also see this toggle later after launching a poll.

2. End a Google Meet Poll

To end a Google Meet poll, go to the Activities section, select Polls, and click End the poll. Keep in mind, ending a poll will only prevent participants from submitting their feedback. However, they can still view the poll. To prevent them from seeing the poll, you must delete it.

3. Delete a Google Meet Poll

If you realize you've made a mistake after the poll is live, you can delete it for good. To permanently delete a Google Meet poll, click the Activities button, select Polls, and click the Delete icon. Please note, deleting a poll cannot be undone. And once you delete the poll, it will not be visible even to you as a moderator.

How to Respond to a Poll

If the meeting host creates a poll, Google Meet will send you a notification. You will see a "The host has started a poll" alert pop-up at the bottom of the display. To go to the poll's section to vote, tap Open.

Alternatively, follow these steps to respond to a poll:

Tap the three-dot icon at the bottom right.
Select Activities from the dialogue menu.
Tap Polls, and choose your response.
Hit Vote to submit your response.

Remember, once you submit your response, you can't change it.

How to View Poll Results in Google Meet

Google Meet will email you the poll results instantly after the meeting as an attachment if you're a moderator. The poll report will include the names of those who participated and their responses. The attachment will also include all the polls that you created in a meeting and their results.

And if you're a meeting participant, you can only see poll results while the meeting is ongoing. There's also another catch, however. The moderator must enable everyone to view the poll results first.
